I’m Alex, my pronouns are she/her, and I’m the creator of Write On

Write On is mostly an outlet for me to be the most unfiltered version of myself, and hoping that someone out there likes the business—and me—or it. :)

My inspiration comes from bad jokes, good food and the great outdoors.
I love to create work that tells a story, shares an emotion, or can make someone smile. I do this by turning my digital doodles and dad jokes into greeting cards, stickers, accessories and more.

I have always dreamt of spending my days being creative and running my own business. So much care goes into every step, from drawing the illustrations to packaging the products, to sharing things with you.

what makes us special?

  • Each of our products feature a design by owner, Alex. We specialize in greeting cards, which are printed locally at Newfoundland Canvas. Each card comes with a matching colourful, self-sealing envelope. They are stored, packed and shipped from Alex’s home in St. John's, NL, Canada for the ultimate quality control.

  • At Write On, we believe in all kinds of human connection, which is why community is so important.

    What does community mean to us?

    Inclusivity:

    • Non-gendered designs: We use animals or personification of inanimate objects (instead of illustrations of humans) so that any/every person can relate to our cards.

    • Language: We avoid using gendered language on our cards or we ensure there are options for everyone.

    Charity:

    We support local charities through in-kind graphic design work, products for auctions, and monetary donations. Some of our recipients include the Ronald McDonald House and Mothers of Avalon.

  • Environmental sustainability is a top priority at Write On. The packaging for almost all of our products is eco-friendly.

    • The clear protective sleeves for our greeting cards are 100% compostable.

    • The stickers on our packaging are also 100% compostable, so you don’t need to worry about peeling them off before putting them in the bin!

    Disclaimer: Our gift tags currently come packaged in a clear plastic baggy. We hope to find a better alternative soon but in the meantime, please reuse your baggies! They’re great for storing jewelry to prevent oxidization.

the process:

Step 1:

Alex comes up with an idea for a card then draws the illustration on her iPad.

Step 2:

She uses Canva to tweak the design and add text, then formats the cards in Adobe Illustrator.

Step 3:

The cards are printed at Newfoundland Canvas.

Step 4:

The cards are stored at Alex’s home until an order comes in. Once that happens, she matches them with a colourful, self-sealing envelope and packages them in a compostable sleeve + sticker.

Step 5:

The order is sent to you! Typically, there are 2-3 business days between order and shipment.

SHIPPING

  • Yes! We offer local pickup in St. John's, NL. You can select this option at the checkout and more information will be provided to you.

  • Yes! Local delivery (in St. John's) is available for a fee. Alternatively, free shipping is available across Canada. They will ship via Canada Post; shipping time varies based on the season.

  • We currently ship to anywhere in North America. For international orders, please contact hello@shopwriteon.com

  • Orders usually take 1-3 business days to ship from St. John’s.

    Shipping times are merely an estimate and subject to change based on weather and seasonal volumes. (Your order is shipping from an island, so always give yourself more time than you think is needed.)

  • While it's unlikely, all of our merchandise is shipped from Canada and may incur duties.

CUSTOM ORDERS

  • We do not make one-off custom greeting cards. This is due to the time that goes into each design—it would not be cost effective for us, or for you.
